my lettuces are covered in flys

what are they and how do i rid them? i guessed grren fly but there are smaller ones that are white. it was slugs last year now i have flys help!

Aphids come in all sorts of colours, ie. green fly is a green aphid, black fly is a black aphid, etc.

You need some ladybirds, and a nettle patch and some early flowers, like pouched egg for next year.

Try a diluted washing-up liquid and squirt 'em...it does help ;)

I've not been to my plot for weeks due to work getting in the way but I went yesterday and found my carrot and onions smothered in poached egg.  When I sowed them I only did a row about 18" long, now they're all over the bed. Probably moley is responsible.  I shall leave them be and see if they deter the nasties
