Can you 'tame' a chicken?

My ex battery hens have lived free range on a farm for about 6 month safter they were rescued-in that time they had little human contact. It sound like people on here can pick up their hens and stroke them- but mine are fearful and flap when I get near them. Over time do you think they will get more tame?

hi viks,

ex batts are warrens, and one of the tamest breeds.

sit down with them, nice and quiet, hoolding out treats ( mealworms work wonders)

they will come to you, its just patience.

here's a couple of pics to show how tame they can be.

Do you have matching lipstick to give her beak the same colour as her nails?

I rescued 4 chooks from a nasty nasty lady earlier this year. They were very fearful, skinny and didnt have much of a feather coat. Within 4 weeks they had got their feathers back and had started to lay again. I now get an egg a day from each of them and they are first at the gate when I go in. They have also taken to perching on me if I dont get the treats out of the bag quick enough      So, just give it a little time :)
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!

I'm sure they will get tame. When we first got ours they ran away and hid when I went to see them. Now they run TO me and lie on the ground for pats and let me pick them up and stroke them and eat out of my hand. It's just lovely. But yes, it takes a wee while. I go in with them all the time and used to sit quietly with them and feed them.
