New to looking after hens, but Ive now got 6 hens, they seem happy enough, but two of them have lost some feathers from there backsides and now look like baboons when they bend over, any ideas as to why?
??? I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous... ???

Are they pecking eachother? Are their bums blue?
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

could be a few things is their run big enough? Are they bored? This can cause feather pecking which is generally directed at their vents!
Also might be a good idea to check for lice or mites.
Finally could be a moult bit unusual though unless perhaps exbats.

Red bums can be a sign of good health. I kid you not, it can be like humans having a bit of colour in their cheek.

One of my light sussex's has a bare red bum and has done from the day we had her. ( I didnt notice till we got her home!). She is perfectly healthy in every other way, sometimes her botty is just pink, others bright red. It doesnt seem to bother her though, so Ive left well alone.

Thats feather pecking and not what I meant by a rosey glow. I reckon that some of those spectacles that I mentioned in an earlier thread would sort the problem out. I'm still waiting for them to arrive.

But until you get them spray all her bare skin with purple spray from the horsey suppliers.  It may deter further pecking.

You could get more money for their eggs if people get to know that they are from a rare breed of purple a***d black rocks.

I've just had a chick this last few days thats been feather pecked and blood showing, out came the purple spray and touch wood, so far its brood mates have left it alone.
