I have an enclosed run attached to my hen coop. Yesterday I found a dead sparrow in there. Im puzzled. I let the hens out for a forage at tea time could they have found it and taken it in. They are bantams. Must say it was a shock.

Oooooooooo - that's bizzare! There was some discussion on here about chickens eating live mice and frogs so anything is possible I suppose!

Our chooks were well on the way to killing a dove a few weeks back if we hadn't rescued it.
They apparently do catch and eat mice as mdueal said so there's a good chance I would think that the sparrow was seen as an extra pudding.
Anything like that tends to get dragged around a lot due to the silly chasing games so it might even be scattered in various corners.
Don't know of any implications healthwise. eg mites, worms, etc.

Might be worth keeping a close eye for a few days.

Last night my parents youngest duck (3yr old female) was chasing two piegons round the garden.

There was alot of noise going on and when my dad went our to see what was happening he found one of the pigeons dead!!!  She wasnt interested in it when it was dead.

We have never noiticed this type of behaviour before in her..very odd

Hens will pick on a flock member and peck it to death, so killing a smaller bird seems very possible. They do seem to be excited by movement and chase other animals.
