going to plant some today am i best to cover them with clear polythene after watering them in ?

I wouldn't. I sow my seed mixed with radish seed to mark the row as radish germinates quickly but parnsip can take an age

Sow mine 4 or 5 at a 'station' every 8".

Did that 3 weeks ago, noticed they had come up yesterday. Just left them to it.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
