Laying!
« on: April 24, 2008, 16:28 »
Hi ya

I have 3 hens which are around 19/20 weeks old, one of them has been laying for a couple of weeks but we've had two eggs today.  Am I right in thinking that one of the others has started laying today too or is it possible her to lay two eggs in a day?!  I know I probably sound stupid but I'm new to this!!

Thanks in anticipation x

Laying 2 eggs in one day is rare, although someone on here said their chook did the other day!  so it looks like you've got 2 laying!!!!!

She'll catch up when she's ready!  Mind you, saying that, I've got 3 chooks that don't lay!  One is a Goldline and she is 1 year, although actually she has laid 4 eggs since last August!  then there's Rosemary, who doesn't lay and she doesn't crow, and she's not sure if she's a hen or a cockerel!!!  Then there's Rosie's mate Thyme, who is very small like Rosie and we nearly lost her, but I got her back to health and now she and Rosie have their own little house away from the 'big' girls, so they don't get picked on anymore!!!!!!

it takes around 24 hours for a hen to make one egg, which is why extremely rare to lay 2 eggs in one day -and up to 2 hours to lay one (ouch!!! )

I've got 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Americaunas, 1 White Leghorn, and a Buff/RIR mix. They are all well over 1 year old and they just won't lay. I've had them a little over a week now.  I found 5 that were egg eaters and I've since removed them. Now all I have left or the non-egg eating hens. But still no eggs.....
