This is my new chicken house and run. I started it just after Christmas and finaly got the hens last week, six weeks over schedule and £££££s over budget. :D

Sets a low standard and fails to achieve it.

Mucho respect to you for that magnificent example of poultry architecture.

Well done that man.

Better get a fag packet out and start designing phase II with a mock tudor east wing and gable fronted gate house.

What a palace!
Reckon we should have a photo competition on hen houses - there are some beauties about.  Reckon I'd win the booby prize with my converted rabbit hutch and ricketty run.

Wow that is a loverly house/run. My girls are jealous. My hubby is a joiner and the most ive managed to get him to do so far is build them a basic house.

:( :( :(
now I feel terrible for my girls.. That pad is brilliant. I thought I had done a good job creating a small run for mine. Only now after I have had my girls for months now do I realise I should have made a run like yours. i.e. not 4ft hight. Impossible to get into the run and turn all of the soil over.. bad bad planning..

I am so jealous :D

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone.
This is my second time of keeping hens. The last time was about twenty Years ago when I made all the usual mistakes. Hard to clean house, unable to walk into the run etc. This time I had a much clearer idea of what was best for both me and the hens.
So far I haven’t provided a dust bath. I am thinking that once the grass under the house has all gone it will be dry enough for them to do their own thing. I might start them off by tipping some old potting compost under there. The rest of the run is going to have a good layer of woodchip put down. The local tree surgeon is a bit pricey, but by all accounts it is quite a big load that he delivers. So I will see how it pans out.

WOW! What a henhouse...do you do B&B??! Decided that I wouldn't let my girlies see any of your pictures as MOH hasn't time to make them one like that!! All you need is a trip to IKEA for the furniture...little sofas and beds!!

Judi
