dried peas

Hi, I can't find any marrowfat seeds in my local garden centres so I was pondering buying a box of dried marrowfats from the supermarket and planting these. Has anyone done this before and did it work?

I haven’t done it personally but my dad used to on his allotment, cheaper than buying proper seed packets, he used to soak them before sowing and they always grew.

They germinate nicely, (already tried this year) and I'm planning on putting some in soon. I put 4 on cottonwool and they were all up within a week or so - I put them in compost and they're about 7" high now and looking healthy.

I used dried marrowfat peas from the supermarket.

my mate did it last year with normal peas, he soaked them for 24 hours first
they produced lots of peas, but not very sweet and the pods were very anaemic looking.  I much preferred mine

Some guys down our site use marrowfat peas from the supermarket and say they get alright results.
Others I have spoken to say that only proper seed peas from a reputable source are worth the while.
I went with the latter and two week ago I sowed 15 Sutton's Kelvedon Wonder and 14 out of 15 have germinated.
I will sow a further 20 of this type in a week or two and then a further 20 in about a month.
Mrs FB and I love our peas  :D

I have just realised I sound like the spiting image caricatures of John and Norma Major from about ten years ago,
where John was all in grey and eating a plate full of peas with encouragement from Norma.
Can anyone else remember that sketch?
