Bulging Borlotti's
« on: April 04, 2008, 12:19 »
These have been in my 'office greenhouse' a few weeks now. They are a dwarf variety from than Italian seed company.

I'm concerned they are getting pretty bloomin large - about 12" tall but very bushy and wondered whether just to pot into bigger pots or even whether to plant out into the garden now?

Thoughts anyone??

Good beer, good BBQ and good friends.

I think you were a bit early! My climbing ones will be sown in about a week's time. If you put them outside, first frost & it's 'goodbye'. You can try to keep them ticking inside in a bigger pot.

You say they are dwarf ones, yet they seem to be putting out runners?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I'm going to plant my Borlottis (in pots, mice problem on plot 98) this weekend, inside until they break the surface, then in the cold frame, hoping to plant out in about 3 weeks. Climbing variety.

they're not frost hardy so can't go out yet, spesh as bad weather is forecast this weekend.  You don't reckon to sow them til the end of the month.
