good luck (i know how you feel)

back to allotments.....:) well, I 've been on two waiting lists with 30 on each so thought I would never get one.

But, a couple of weeks ago, at a village about 4 miles away, I found there is a lcoal charity with allotments.have been there this afternoon, adn have just got one.

it's half size...but still an amazing 80 foot by 25 foot! Small gooseberry, loganberryand blackcurrant bushes in! Plus, the whole plot is covered with black plastic!!!!All for £9 a year.

So don't give up anyone....

I can see the other point of view. But my site secretary was happy for me to keep in touch with him as often as I did. He was very angry with the fact that many people on the list had 'vanished' or never bothered to keep in touch with him to see how it was progressing. I guess it works both ways, and had I got the impression the site secretary was not happy with my approach I would have stopped. Alot of the allotments in my area have the same problem with waiting lists not being reviewed. I stand by my advice, ring the secretary of your allotment, he might have the same view as mine. However, be courtious and read the situation.

Hi guys, thanks for the humungous response!  :D
Undaunted I spent my day investigating other sites and oh so very nearly gained a plot!
It was a bottom undulating corner one, fair size overgrown with weeds and such. The guy who showed me it gave me the impression no-one wanted it and gave the number of the chap to contact - which i did. He rang me back.
Previous tenants of that plot had had problems, on that he was reluctant to elaborate.
As I did not live within their parish, my name could not be put on the waiting list, and there were only 9 on it! No water supply but you could have water butts, no sheds, poly not glass, so!
I spent the rest of my afternoon digging over my grassed area & yanking lots of weeds out of my garden. Dug about 3 & 1/2+ feet x 12+ft. Got same again left to go plus all the other prep work. Not quite a plot BUT it's a start! :)

My brother has a big garden- he is disabled and has to pay a man to come to look after it. (man takes about 2 hours to cut a tiny lawn and supposedly sort the flower beds- brother is blind so can´t see what little work the man actually does. We have told my brother but he won´t listen) Shame he doesn´t live close to you, then maybe you could garden share- you do all the work and he got a share of the veggies!  How about approaching a local housing association to see if there are any old folk who would like their garden looked after for veg growing. You never know!
