And the 2 feet is between rows not plants, though more can be used (2 and a half) for particularly large varieties of main crop as Cara or Sharpo, for example.

Whether small plant or large early or main, you cant earth the things up if there isn't enough distance.

That brings me to my next question I have noticed most people on my allotment have earthed their potatos up after they have planted them.  I was going to leave mine until they started sprouting is there a right or wrong time to do this?

I was hoping to get to the allotment today but alas I got carried away at the auctions then went into town and bought some black & red currant bushes from Wilkensons for a £1 each.  Mind you it was pouring with rain this afternoon so couldn't do anything anyway.  :roll:

It WILL be nice weather tomorrow (Sunday) won't it I want to get some potatos planted?
