green on my seed trays
« on: March 23, 2008, 08:04 »
Hi all,

I seem to be getting a lot of green on my seed trays a few days or so after I have planted my seeds. Am I leaving them too wet, and do I need to take off the plastic lid every day, and put it back on again at night?

Am so green at this, not even green fingered, just pale green! I have probably made loads of mistakes, and go carried away, but have planted peppers, (have some coming up), tomato seeds, leek seeds, coriander, basil, parsley, runner beans, kohlrabi, and watermelon. Most of them in seed trays.

Thanks for any advice, also is it too early to start using my rhubarb yet?

Morning Soaplady, yes it does sound as though they are possibly a little too wet, but as things are germinating it's probably fine, I'd be tempted just to lift up the lid for an hour or so, you don't dry them up out too much. Mine quite often get a green layer over the compost to.

its usually a sign of over watering but it wont harm your plants just be careful not to over water or the plants will rot off
Everyone should grow their own veg and know where their food is coming from even if it is only a one pot on a patio or balcony Grow Something!!
