I have sown some Festival Squash today in pots to plant out in April. Can anyone give me tips on how to get them to climb and how tall they grow.

April seems a bit soon to plant out outside.  Are they going in a greenhouse or polytunnel?  If not, do use a cloche.

Should imagine they'll want to climb anyway and produce tendrils to do so and all you'll need to do is give them something to climb up.  No idea how tall they'll grow.

I'd agree the timing is a bit out of place, unless you have an enormous warm gh with space for them till June.

Is this the same variety as Carnival/Sweet dumpling, where did you get the seeds from?

You will need to build a frame for them and they shall climb up it OK, but with the thought, these are trailing plants, so you got to show them the way every now and then and put sprawling shoots into place.

I have planted them in pots indoors and they have just germinated, I'm going to let them get a couple of inches tall then pot them on and put them in my light garden shed if the weather is warm enough. Planning to put them in the ground late April early May.

the squash thrived until a spell of cold weather killed them off. I have just replanted, please don't tell me it's still too early ?

I am a beginner at veg growing but have some squash seeds which have germinated and have put into pots inside. I am going to plant them out after the frosts and going to try getting one of them up my pergola just to see how it goes. i understand they are very vigourous feeders and LOVE manure so am planning to give it plenty of space. hope yours does well

Squash have grown on well and will soon be ready to go out, I will probably leave it until the beginning of june to avaoid cold nights. Should I be worried about the leaf on pic 2?

I've gone mad with squash and pumkin and courgette and  beans and ... I always overdo it ! any way my squashes have been outside in pots for a couple of weeks even through the cold spell and I will be glad to get them up the lottie this weekend as they are taking over the end of the garden - they all seem fine and I have made a huge raised heap for them to romp away in. :D

Never grown squash before.... so if this is a stupid question then I'll go happily stand in the corner  ;)

have a 'squash' raised bed. with various varieties appropriately spaced from a thread on here if I remember rightly... Am currently not planning anything other than letting them grow out and trail along horizontally on the soil. Is this correct?

Pumpkin - hundredweight (started at home 6 leaf stage)
Pumpkin - Becky ( started at home 4 leaf)
Squash - Cobnut * 2 (started at home 6 leaf stage)
Squash - Harlequin * 2 (sown in situ just emerging)
Squash - Turks turban * 2 (sown in situ just emerging)
Squash - Crown Prince * 2(sown in situ just emerging)
