Tomato Problem - what is it.
« on: August 16, 2023, 16:15 »
On the bottom ie: opposite end to stalk, the outdoor Alicante have got a brown disfigurement about the size of a 10p.  I have sliced one and  inside it is fine and tastes lovely.   What is this , Thanks,  Mrs Bouquet

It could also be cat facing. BER is worse as it renders the affected bit inedible cat facing is just ugly. I'd have a Google of both to see what you have

Carrying on on another problem with tomatoes.  Why are some varieties of tomato still remaining green round the calix (or stem end) and into the fruit?

Cheers,  Tony.

Hello Yorky, it isn't blossom end rot (wrong end) and it isn't blight Phytophthora infestans (I have had experience of this troublesome problem), the only thing I think it may be is just slow ripening.

I'll monito the siuation and get back to you.
Cheers,  Tony.

If you read further down that link, you will see reference to greenback, which is tomatoes stubbornly staying green around the shoulders when the rest of the tomato has ripened.

It may just be late ripening, as you say, but your original query suggested that it was more extreme than that  :)
