Brassica Protection
« on: May 07, 2023, 14:46 »
My PSB are getting too big for their pots now so it looks time to get them into the ground. Got some flexible piping for hoops but I am confused what to cover them with!
Before I got my allotment I used enviromesh as I only had a small area to cover but now with a larger area I thought I’d double check - I am sure I have seen normal netting on peoples photos but surely the butterflies can get through this??
Any suggestions, links etc.
(I know Enviromesh lasts for a number of years so if its still the best option, good to know too)

Why don't you try black debris netting? 2Mts.wide by 50 Mts. long for about £30 on Amazon which is much cheaper than Enviromesh. Its not as fine a mesh but 2 layers works just as good. One layer is usually sufficient.

I would aim for netting that is no larger than 5mm x 5mm holes. Butterflies can squeeze through holes larger than that. But no, you don't need enviromesh size netting.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
