I tried to pay my monthly electricity bill by phone today. The electricity company has my card number stored so it should have been a simple exercise. However, the electricity company's payment site flagged up that I needed a one-time authentification password which they would message to my land-line. Sure enough there was a message on my land-line that stated that to proceed, I needed to enter my 16-digit card number. As if I was so stupid!
For the record, the number, an 0800 one, had an automated answer that welcomed me to the Commercial Fraud Operation
I'm pretty sure it was an attempted scam. What do others think?
