Sorry snowboar my leeks have had rust for a couple of weeks.
Not sure what if any effect potassium would have.
I have eaten some after peeling off the rusty outside leaves.
Mind you my leeks are a reasonable size already.
Keep digging

Looks like the old boy was right found info from rhs saying rust is worse on soil high in nitrogen and low in potassium I had double dug that bed and added manure so it make sense carnt beat advise from the older generation

Interesting Snowboar I would have added a good quantity of chicken manure to the bed that has my leeks. Must remember to not overdo things in future. Happily the damage to my leeks is mainly cosmetic the inside leaves are ok.

I don’t normally get it this early but gutted as I already planted the worlds most expensive veg in same bed (elephant garlic) hope it doesn’t get it to bad 😀👍

I use Neem oil with Lux flakes, seems to be holding the rust at bay.

Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Try growing rust resistant varieties in future - eg Below Zero, Porbella a & Tornado, just a few I've grown. There are probably more if you Gurgle..

Keeping them consistently wet seems to help, but that can be a pain to do depending in the weather. I don't have any rust at all but it's been a very wet September and October so far in glasgow. Mine are all quite small, much smaller than last year

it seems Porbella has good rust resistance also Stamford is said to have the same we grow Porbella and it seems there's no sign of rust at present although I was a bit late planting out because of the dry weather we usually spread wood ash on our onion bed prior to plantings could be worth doing the same prior to planting our leek plants?
