I would try again. I sowed both only a week or so ago.

Mine are in modules at home and are showing already. If you are sowing direct on the plot it might be more variable unless you can get there to water them regularly. I can’t, so I do smaller sowings at home where I can better look after them.

1 bean per module. 3-4 beetroot seeds per module and plant out as a clump.

French beans are fine to get out in July, but straight in the ground I find best at this time for quick germination.
Probably best to water the row before soing to give them a good settling in with this hot spell.

Beetroot seed are fine for Sowing in July and right up to late summer
I sow my beetroot in regular sowings outside through the season from April to late summer and sowed the latest batch a few weeks back and are all up and strong seedlings already.
I stick now with my most reliable staples of Boltardy and Egyptian. Never found any others that preform as well over the years.

I have a packet of dwarf bean seeds called "fortuna" (I bought them here in Belgium) and the instructions talk about sowing from April to August and harvesting as late as October. I don't have much of the seeds left as I used them during the early spring cold spell and they either did not come up or were gobbled up by the slugs. Plus I can't remember where I bought them from.

I've sown a couple of rows of beetroot where I took out some potatoes last week and planning to do the same this week although I might do some dwarf beans instead now it's been mentioned.
