Dishwashers
« on: March 03, 2022, 22:35 »
Well, the dishwasher looks as though it's on its last legs. There is power going to it, but it won't go any further than 2 minutes into its cycle before getting stuck and just making a noise. No water flowing into it.

I inherited it when I bought the house 12 years ago, so it doesn't owe me anything.

So, any recommendations for replacement dishwashers? Not too pricey - I quite like Bosch, which is the current one.

How do people find cutlery trays at the top, instead of a cutlery basket at the bottom?  It seems to cut down on the headroom height for the top standard tray, but provide flexibility in the bottom tray.

I've got access to Which?, but of course the machine I like the look of from their reviews is no longer on sale!

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Just a thought , have you checked the filter and the outlet hose to make sure they're not full of gunk as if they haven't pumped out properly they don't take on more water.

No advice on a new one I'm afraid, mine is older that yours  :nowink:

Definitely follow up on Lardy's suggestion.

My advice on new dishwashers: don't, if you can avoid it. This may not apply to Bosch, but many of the American-branded ones (Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana, Frigidaire, etc., EXCEPT General Electric) the inner workings are all made by the same manufacturer. There is a common part in them made of plastic, it warps over time due to dishwasher temperature, then the machine leaks. The plastic part is not available at any cost, boom, you need a new dishwasher.  This was information provided to me by an appliance repair man that services those American brands, he is highly trusted in our area.

We currently have a G.E., it's OK, not fantastic.

If there's a repair man you trust, I suggest you ask if your Bosch is repairable. Unless of course you don't care for it and want a new one.

I have cutlery tray at the top and find it fine. The top standard tray can be adjusted high or lower.

Top cutlery tray is great.
As for makes we've currently got a Samsung not cheap, but we’re on our 3rd because we’ve had issues with the first 2  but they just replace them. Hubby thinks this is a good deal, I’m not so sure, but 5 years in & we’ve still got an under 1yrold machine, plus they give an extended 5 yr guarantee as standard

We had an Indeset which was fine while there was four of us here but when that when down to two, the daughters moving on and leaving home, it was too  big and we kept running out of things we needed.  I think it gave up the ghost as we didn't use it as often as it should be.  We've now replaced it with a cupboard.

We bought a Bosch after numerous Indesit dishwashers.
So far so good after 6 years. The Bosch cost more than our Indesits did but hopefully will be more reliable. Works well if loaded as required with salt etc.
Keep digging

Our dishwasher is a 'Growster', and I'm told is always reliable...

I'd say 'usually' reliable, but as I always do the job, I suppose I'll have to agree!

All my appliances are Bosch except the dishwasher, which is Neff.   As I am only me, it takes a while to fill it up.  It has a basket for the cutlery at the bottom, which is good to lift out and take to cutlery drawer.
I now only use a 35 degree heat setting, which is very much quicker and does the job.   I regularly check the filters and give them a clean.   Every few months I buy and use a specialist D/washer cleaner which gets right into the workings.    Touching wood, it is trouble free and I have had it a good number of years.
Good luck.   Mrs Bouquet

Mine is bosch, probably about 23/24 years old. never do the filter. having cutley tray which is carriable is good and inside fold flat, so great for cleaning oven shelves.
