I've just been sorting my leaf mould pile to put on the veg patch and have found a load of theses creatures. Anyone what these larvae are or become?

Hard to tell from the photo, but they may be a type of sawfly.  The larvae often look like a caterpillar with a different colored head on one end.

I think the ones in your leaf mould may have been looking for a soil-like material in which to shelter and pupate.

Not sure but i think they are daddy long legs larvae. Leather jackets i think they are called

Look like leather jackets to me too. These can be very destructive to newly planted out Brassicas and the like. They just chomp through the stem of the plants at ground level killing it... I really hate these things .
