My husband is insisting that he will compost a whole cubic meter of moss after scarifying the lawn. I have never tried composting moss as I didn't think it was possible. Does any one have any advice or help that I can give him as it doesn't seem to be working very well.

I'm not sure that it will compost. I do know you can't use it as a mulch as it will carry on growing there.

That's interesting. I don't have much lawn, so it is not something I have had to deal with - yet! Will it compost down in a hot compost heap?

Hello is the moss being killed or scarified with out killing, if it's got moss killer on (Sulphate of Iron) mix it with garotra compost maker it will rot down but very slowly about 2 years, if no moss killer do like I do I scarify then let my mate clean it up for lining hanging baskets he takes about 15 hundred weight a year ,pressed I to a hanging basket an inch thick it helps retain water, he doesnt put 15 hundred weight in one basket before any one asks   jezza

I experimented last year when my mate was doing a lot of scarifying in his gardening business. It was all pretreated with Iron Sulphate first to kill it and then I put in in a big heap and covered it. My first mistake was  covering it before it gone thoroughly wet as a lot just sat there and made an ideal home for mice😡. The cover was taken off in autumn and it seems to be breaking down ok now. I did use a fair bit a couple of months ago as a mulch for a large bed to suppress weeds over winter and will plant through it in the spring.
