« on: May 28, 2020, 08:46 »
What are the plants you grow for its leaves consumption (i will leave herbs out)
Mainly stir fried or cooked with lentils or other vegetables to bulk it up.
My list

2. Beetroot
3. Chard
4. Spinach
5. Mung bean leaves (not the sprouts. Real leaves)
6. Kale (not planted but will do soon)
7. Fenugreek
8. Brown chickpeas (Nice tangy taste)
9. Pakchoi
10. Fennel
11. Mooli
12. Amaranth

Do the Asturian tree cabbage leaves cook and taste like a spinach? Never come across that before. Sounds intriguing

Spinach x 2
Beetroot
Swiss white chard
very dull in comparison :-)

Stir fried dill is amazing. And use stems with lentils in pressure cooker.
And stir fried fenugreek leaves or them mixed in wheat flour to make chappati or flat bread.

Closer to cabbage than spinach, they are pretty much equivalent to a cut and come again cabbage, and if you cut the flower buds off as they form, you can keep it going through a second year.

Nasturtium leaves, they're everywhere here, and have a fabulous bite and flavour, which goes so well with wild rocket!

I’d love to grow fenugreek Prakash.  Do you think the seeds that are Used for cooking would grow? It’s what I do for chickpeas ( albeit they are a bit bigger!)

I grow a lot of greens for cooking with  - chard, perpetual spinach, erbette (Italian chard type plant (easy as chard, more like spinach to eat), mustard greens, spinach, komatsuna, kailan, turnip greens, garlic chives (blanch and dress as salad), plus various others I have probably forgotten.  I also grow a white beetroot from this seed supplier.  It really does have different leaves than a normal beetroot (which I also eat)

https://www.realseeds.co.uk/beetroot.html

If you are a keen leafy green grower, this site might be a good one for you.   They have loads of unusual and different stuff.

I have never thought of stir-frying dill, but i am going to try it once my plants get going  :)  I have a huge lovage plant on the plot as well.  I think I might give that a go and see how it is.
