A few tomatoes!

Had a bit of a pick through the greenhouse tom's, all I have to do now is covert them into "Tom Gloop"  for Chilli, Lasange and bol sauce.

Nice load of toms!
I gave twice that amount to a friend this morning mainly San Marzano and Roma with some salad and apero cherries thrown in. I have to say though that for whatever reason with the exception of the Roma's and the Piccolo cherry my tomatoes have been lacking real sweetness this year. We had a quite cool  May and June followed by some very hot July onwards all mine are grown outdoor so I am stumped. I have had beef master tomatoes at near on a kilo each which look great but taste a little bland, St Pierre are the same lovely red and round toms but just a bit disappointing  on the flavour front. Oh well on to next year still lots to come off the vines though I have forty plants in this year so will be bottling again a little later in the year.

I've always been told if you sprinkle a bit of Sulphate of Potash around the base of your tomato seedlings it helps the fruit taste better. Not entirely sure about that one though.
Also have you tried picking your tomatoes just as they start to colour and bringing them inside to ripen? I bring mine indoors and sit them on the kitchen bench, out of direct sunlight, and let them ripen. Mind you this becomes some what impractical when your tomatoes decide to crop all at once.     I think the very high temperatures and dry weather may also have something to do with lack of flavour.
