I use a cheap plastic rubbish bin with lid. Simply fill it 3/4 with water and put in any amount of comfrey, borage & nettles that i wish. In a few weeks it;s brewed and usable. I keep mine with the lid on (for obvious reasons) and keep it topped up periodically making use of it right throughout the year.
Grow lights for early germination;
Blow away on NE facing terrace for hardening off;
Small potager 90sq.m at 300metres
No-dig method, intensive planting and incorporating permaculture principles.

I use the plastic pots that fence paint comes in for my nettles, comfrey and nematodes.
They have tight fit lids, so easy to make a few holes on the lid, I do that for nettles and comfrey.
They stack well too.

I use a small water barrel with a tap at the bottom.  I stuff an onion bag with all the comfrey, pop it inside the barrel and fill with water.  I use a stick of the right length inside the barrel to keep the bag at the bottom otherwise it floats.  Then after it has stewed for a couple of weeks you just fill your watering can from the tap.  Whether you need to dilute it or not depends on the ratio of comfrey and water you have put in.

Emptying the bag when the barrel is empty requires undoing the drawstring and tipping on to the compost heap.  Do not do this job if you are going somewhere nice afterwards.
I find it the easiest and least messy method overall.

I have used an old wheelie bin, handy with the lid to. 3/4 water and stir each time I go to the plot. Keep adding the comfrey, should stink in no time. ;)
