This year we've also made ours with sheep netting instead of plastic clematis netting and used some tall iron rods firmly fixed into the soil as a support frame. The thing with sheep netting is that the holes in the lower part are smaller than the upper part so it gives the newly-planted peas something to attach to before they start climbing, and it makes picking pods a lot easier.
