Excited; just found my first cauliflower head
I am growing them in containers which had 2 handfuls of 6x pelleted chicken manure mixed in before planting. Do I need to feed them further now the heads are developing and if so with what?
How do I know when to harvest them?
These are the exact same ones we grew two years back and they cropped really well. Good firm ground, plenty of water, chicken manure pellets, then a watering or two of tomato fertiliser as soon as the curds started to be visible.
They can be harvested as soon as the curds look full and tight and domed ... mine were about 15cm across. Just be aware they need steaming rather than boiling or they go pale blue
Slicing on mandolin and including in salad was good, as was stir frying
