Shall I or shall I not
« on: January 30, 2017, 14:56 »
I had decided to down size 10 pole plot as I struggled a bit last year so I have covered half up with a plan to use the covered piece the following year.

Now this morning I went for a walk heading for a pocket park just 10 mins away very pleasant views.although I have lived here 30 plus years I had never noticed a small private allotment before.
I got talking to a chap on his plot who turns out to be the man that runs it.
Now he has offered me a 5 pole plot for a £5 a year,it needs a bit (not to much) work on it and the site does not have water, the soil looks really good
I am tempted very tempted .shall I or shall I not.

Not sure why that gap came .

I'd go for the one within walking distance, makes things much easier - mines just around the corner, so I can pop back if I've forgotten something?

Can you have a shed to collect water?

Same here my plot's only an eight minute walk away (unless I stop to natter). It's a big plus not having to rely on transport.

Well I would keep the other one going for a year to see how it goes.
It's within walking distance through the wood but it would be longer by car
There are no sheds but I tend to use the car with my tools in the back.
It is the lack of water that is the concern.
What I like is the small site and not council owned.
Still thinking about it,but I know I will have a rash moment (I'm like that) and just go for it in the end ,it's bugging me.

Blimey, don't know how you've managed to dig on a day like this. Been wet all day and the ground's even wetter. My ground drains well, but I wouldn't contemplate even standing on it!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Yes you are right,I'm not to far away from you,but the area is stricken with tangled grass so it's a case of lifting and shaking the soil of,so in this case being wet helped. The bit I have started looks ok.

Sounds like you have your work cut out with both plots.  We have some sites around here without water, but the plot holders collect rainwater via their shed roofs which makes things a little easier. Transporting water is a long hard job. I hope it works out for you

Would an up turned umbrella like structure on top of a water butt work ?

I'm giving the water butt a start by transferring from my garden butt and am laying open containers around the plot
