Sour Crop
« on: January 23, 2008, 23:26 »
I have had a problem with Higgledy Piggledy (fat hen) she has had a big bust for a few days now, so I tried the advice about squeezing her

I held her upside down and gently massaged her chest and crop, been doing it for a few days now.  I have been getting some muck out of her.Today we had a lot of success a load of smelly grass and gunge came out and she has been a lot better this afternoon.  I will carry on till she goes down a bit more and keep giving her the bio yoghurt to help her.

It is not the best task I have had so far but if it helps so be it

You're doing just the right thing Sandra.  Plenty of bio yoghurt and empty her crop if it fills up with squishy liquid   Nasty job !

Keep in mind that this is a fungal infection so if you can't cure it with the flushing and yoghurt treatment she may need some anti-fungal meds from the vet.

Let us know how she goes  :D

Makes me smile how docile she is as if to say oh dear here we go again, bless her.  I prefer to do it a few times through the day so as not to put her under too much stress :?   She just sits and lets me pick her up no flapping its as if she knows what I am doing for her  :(

It's better than KY up the nether regions.

I still smile (though worried at time) about the time Rita had sour crop, and giving her youghourt it was everywhere, over me, the kitchen walls, ceiling and poor Rita looked like she'd been bathing in it.

Well I am sad to say despite all my efforts Higgledy died today, she was following me round so I sat with her holding her and she just gasped a bit and died.  I am glad I was with her she had a peaceful end and is now in no more discomfort. :(

Bless her
