Right-o, inherited a small pear tree (about 5`) when i took over my miniscule half plot in feb last year.For some reason the previous plotter planted it under next doors enormous thirty odd year old Apple tree which not only shades my pint sized Pear but also means it gets clobbered by his windfall (which is substantial as he does`nt really take anything he grows).So any tips on moving to a more suitable site, when,how?.TBF if i`d have had a crystal ball and been able to predict this mild spell it would`ve been moved weeks ago..but hey ho.

All you can do is dig it up with as big a root ball as possible, take care to cut the tap root as deep as you can manage - and replant it, at the same level. With fingers firmly crossed, of course  ; )

Make sure you stake it, as it will have few roots to hold it upright, once the roots have been cut and make sure it doesn't dry out, if we do ever get any dry weather.

In addition to what mumofstig has written, if the plot is waterlogged then don't move it at that point.  Ensure it is neither waterlogged nor frozen.
