Should I get electricity put into new greenhouse
« on: November 13, 2015, 09:01 »
Hi. Just getting new greenhouse put up, gales permitting. It's a lean to against the house. Someone has suggested getting a socket put in, is it worth it? How useful would it be?

Depends on what you want to do in your greenhouse.  I have sockets in mine for my heated propogator.

I would say no , it will only tempt you to get heaters and propagators and start stuff of too early costing you for the electric and new seed when it all goes wrong.

Patience is a real virtue for the gardener ! :D

When i worked full time i had power in my greenhouse with a trickle heater in the soil and light that was switched on from the basement. I was handy to go down in the dark to pot up or wash pots or lots of other winter jobs. I never replaced the power when my greenhouse fell down and would not bother now.

I've only used a heated propogator once - and I think possibly I would be tempted to start things off too soon, when a bit early with just the protection of the greenhouse would be good.

But having a light would be a fantastic idea - I don't know why I haven't thought that one through.  Then I could potter round in it when I got home from work after the clocks go back.

So no harm in getting a socket but I'll definitely get a light put in.  thank you!
