I've grown some pink banana squashes, but don't know if they're summer or winter squashes.
Hurray finally retired
two plots now 31A and 35A

I hadn't thought about them splitting with all this rain  :(
I did pick 4 this week which looked quite cured but a little damaged from being on the ground. I haven't got round to putting them on bricks etc to keep them off the ground, partly because I always get so itchy if the leaves scratch me and its been tshirt weather all summer.

I picked 3 today as I found 2 of my best ones eaten by rats or squirrels (grrr!). I have a few other big ones which need a bit longer in the plant ideally so I have tried to make little enclosures for them - fingers crossed! I wonder if it is the varieties I grow as no one else on the site seems to have the same issue (well not that I am aware of)

Ema, if you can slide a bit of broken tile or even plastic underneath the squash, you'll find it pays dividends. I know what you mean about the itchiness. Long rubber gloves like those you use for washing-up might help.

RJR_38, what varieties do you grow?

The one that seems most popular is the burgess  buttercup (from real seeds). It is deliciously sweet which is probably why the critters like it....
