Because I'm still hoicking some couch grass from my potential strawberry bed, I was going to leave planting them until autumn. Currently they are in pots and doing rather well with hardly any snail or slug damage. I have two plant troughs measuring 7" wide x 23" long x 7" deep internally and wondered if that was a better option. If so, how far apart should I plant them and should I remove them to renew most or all of the compost in the trough next year?

i plant mine 12in apart    not sure what is recomended though

Just seen something in a Ken Muir PDF about planting in one of those wooden "troughs"and reckon I can just get away with 7 plants per trough. One row with 7.5" between plants (total of 5) and the second staggered row (total of 3) planted the same distance apart.
