« on: July 05, 2015, 13:39 »

Whats going on with my tatties. the seconds ( Charlottes ) are flowering before my International
Kidneys and my pentland javlins. All look healthy enough, any ideas anyone. Cheers.

Not all varieties make a lot of flowers, some make none at all, so no need to worry  ;)

I got fed up of waiting for my international kidney to flower so dug one up this morning to have a peep. I was a bit miffed that I had left them so long. The spuds are the size of one for jacket spuds or long chips.

Waiting for flowers is a pointless exercise as spuds seem to please themselves whether or not they produce them. I lifted the first of my Charlottes a couple of days ago and got two and a half pounds of lovely clean spuds after 15 weeks. Not a great yield but things are a bit behind this year.

We wish we'd started lifting the Swift a couple of weeks earlier, as they're huge now, although the skins pop off nicely after cooking!

Charlottes are still in the ground...
