another corn query
« on: June 14, 2015, 21:30 »
I don't intend to feed much corn as I know they don't need it, but as I'm letting the girls out to freerange in the garden when we're around, I'd like to  use it as a lure to get them back into their run. But the assistant at the breeders where I bought them said don't  feed corn until they all start to lay as it will delay them coming into lay(they are 18 wks) At the moment they are on pellets only, but is this info correct?

No.  Chickens come into lay when their reproductive hormones are ready to do so and no amount of feed or kind of feed will delay that.  They will lay when they are ready.   Corn is all the feed my grandmother's chickens ever got, besides foraged feed, and they came into lay when they should have, as per usual.
