Poppies galore!
« on: June 11, 2015, 13:40 »
These come up every year but have never seen them so floriferous! They are in front of a Rosa rubrum which really and unexpectedly contrasts with their colour.

I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

They look glorious.

I have poppies coming up all over the place and I didn't plant them. Just hope they are pink to fall in with my colour planting.

Mmmm - I'm wondering if those are the Welsh poppies with yellow or orange flowers? I have those too and they do self-seed all over the place.

Mine are oriental poppies that have been there for a number of years. Are yours the same variety? Even so, poppy leaves go like that after flowering and not before. Your cat hasn't wee-d on them has it?

We have oriental poppies in our garden, and our favourite is one called Turkenlouis, if that's how it's spelled, I can't remember. We look forward to the first one every year, the colour hits you right between the eyes, and they have a lovely fringed edge to the petals. Our little granddaughter says that the fallen petals are 'ladybirds'.

I have a lovely poppy, not sure if it's an oriental, don't know how they get that distinction but mine is called Pattys Plum, took me ages to find one having seen it on a gardening programme or at a garden or show. It's had the most flowers it's ever had this year & they all came when I was away :( just typical huh  :)
