It is a white currant, planted and fruited last year.  The top leaves of some of the leaders have gone mottled.  Some of the top leaves that aren't mottled have a lot of aphids on the undersides. Is this mottling the result of aphids having been there and moved on, or could it be some sort of deficiency?

The black and red currant bushes on either side haven't got the mottling but they have the greenfly.

Sorry Anne - can't really make out what's going on in your picture - most likely to be my eyes / the screen I'm using... We saw a lot of blackcurrant bushes this morning that were suffereing from aphid attack / leaf curl like thus:

Any smiliarities??

Looks like currant bush leaf spot.  Advice is to water well and feed with grow more/ blood fish & bone.  Dispose of any fallen leaves.  Don't think the crop will be affected too much though.  I think a good water is in order given that the earth is as dry as dust at present.

That usually starts as small brown/black spots, so doesn't look like that to me

Thats just reminded me that I was complaining of something similar last year, see photo from last year...

But as I remember that started in the middle of the bush, whereas this seems to be affecting the new leaves.

This whitecurrant is very close to where the gooseberry was last year.   I wonder if that is significant.

Thanks Baldy but it isn't like your picture, although the leaves where the greenfly is rampant is getting a bit like that.

I'm no closer to a solution.  Perhaps as Ghost suggests, I will just give them a good feed and let them get on.  I might take off the affected leaves too.

It looks quite likely, doesn't it.  There isn't any mention of this virus affecting currants particularly but it does seem to attack a wide range of plants.  No treatment except remove the affected leaves and feed well.
So that is what I will do.
Thanks all for your input.
