Is it just me, or is a bad year for spring germination

Every year it is something different on my allotment, but of the various beans, I have planted, precious few have germinated.  The same goes for my turnips even more. Are we experiencing abnormally low soil temparatures for this time of year, or is this just my experience of low germination?

The soil is still quite cold.

If you look at other threads, you will see that poor germination does seem to be a common problem this year :(

After last years poor germination from sowing direct for many things, this year starting a lot of things off at home then transplanting.  ;)

Mixed for me.  Some things have been great, carrots and peas are 100%.   Beetroot and salsify are rubbish though.   No sign of parsnips yet, but only sown a week ago.

I start most things in the heated propagator  at home, pot them on in little paper pots, then hand over to Mr Bee for the allotment. He like straight lines and I do higgledy piggledy. ::)

The only thing I have started from seed are salads, carrots and spring onions. I think the soil in the raised beds is warmer and so  haven't noticed a problem so far with germination. Touch wood.

However why is it too cool for seeds to germinate but not too cold for the *****y weeds. >:(
