Nights are hovering around 9-10 but I can wait a few more weeks;  once they're down the plot it will all be 'watering can', here I can turn the tap on and keep the slugs off much more easily  8)

Peas are down there and the direct sown fbeans are under fleece.
I've got some massive 5ft high artichokes (the thistle kind) I guess an F would make a mush of them?  I can't cover.

It's that magic fortnight, isn't it!

Running in and out of the greenhouse, thinking all those seedlings will probably be 'OK'!

Never changes really does it...

I put out some hardened off borlotti beans this week as they need a long season and then to dry them.  I've also got a cucumber and a couple of tomatoes in my warmest spot under tightly fitting bell cloches.

Other than that everything else still in the unheated green house or just starting to germinate.  Green house plants will last another week or two before they are on the "must go out now and take their chances" list.

This week things need to be able to swim or fly looking at the forecast. Good thing I've been a sensible girl and put courgettes/marrows/beans in later than last year.

Many years ago, we just had a load of plastic wrapped around the children's climbing frame, and would use this for the interim period between sowing and planting out.

It worked just fine, and if there was a potential for frost, just one paraffin-flavoured hurricane lamp popped in at the bottom (well clear of anything combustible), always worked, Benny! It takes away the problem of those last few degrees, and is pretty safe as well!

They're cheap, and last for ages! May be worth a punt?

Tomatoes will cope with 5 deg and less. Not ideal but mine always get through it. As i have said on another thread, they have survived 0.3 deg already this year.mind you im glad i didnt know about it at the time ! I now have a convector heater on standby.

Spuds have been earthed up but there is absolutely no more room at the inn.

Beans, corn and cucumbers have all been fleeced

The forecasters say no frost in the foreseeable future but beware the Days of the Ice Saints, 14th, 15th, 16th May.

There is often a sudden frost on those days. Minus 6 C here on 15th May 2 or may be 3 years ago.

You were warned!!

I have worked out that the only way I can get everything here under cover is to put some trays of plants on my desk indoors, as they will not all fit along the path in the greenhouse.

And more earthing up of potatoes is on the cards if at all possible  ::)
