Is there some sort of national shortage of red onion sets? Can't find any in garden centres or online. Assumed that they should be planted in spring like other onions and shallots.

Maybe I'm too late?

Don't think there is a shortage but you may be a bit late. Bought mine in January and put them in a couple of weeks ago. Hope you can find some.

it is a bit late i got mine a month ago and thought i was pushing it before they sold out.

on the up side though now is the time to find them discounted to clear so you could find a bargain.

poundland may still have some. i got some from there last year and they seemed ok, not as big as i was expecting and some tried to flower but not a bad result for the money.
