We have had deeply minus temperatures followed by heavy rain which has finally seen off the summer flowers, but there are still a lot of buds on the roses and chrysanths are doing OK.

We've got flag iris, strelitzia, gazanias, roses, bottle brush, flowering sages of all colours - totally wrong IMO!

My echinacea has started growing new leaves and my butterfly bush has new growth despite having had several frosts already. My neighbor's Forsythia is blooming. All very strange as we have been having a cold winter; morning frosts and several snowfalls.

The last few years I've been leaving many of my lobelia bedding plants in.  I just give them a clip in the Autumn to stop them looking straggly, and make bushy plants again, and they often overwinter successfully.

I have an Escallonia 'Gold Ellen' in flower at the moment. It normally flowers in midsummer.
