Sweetcorn

Has old age finally caught up? have I reached my Meldrew stage? have the seed masters gone too far?
Last night as I was tucking into my 'Golden Lion' corn cob it struck me the kernels were just too sweet, cue more ground pepper ??? Thinking back to the old 'Golden Bantam' normal sugar corn type I used to grow, there just seemed to be the right amount of sugar there, not so much that all that came out was the sweetness of the kernels. I must admit I was seduced by the very tender new SH2 types until now, however I am wondering if the new strains are diminishing the corn on the cob experience I used to enjoy

I know taste changes as you get older, but am unsure about the too-sweet aspect. I grew Incredible this year that was lovely but think I prefer Swift as I seem to remember a more corn taste to it. I do agree about being seduced by catalogue descriptions though, but am wise to that now.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
