Calling in at the chip shop after 'Brownies', more years ago than I care to remember, and getting a packetful of 'scratchings' (the bits of broken and overcooked chips scooped out of the oil ), wrapped up in newspaper. I think we used to pay one old penny for them. Walking home in the winter eating them after poking a hole in the bag, vinegar scented steam wafting out, and the 'chips warming our hands.
