Although garlic has rust, half are ready for harvest. Onions have been a complete disaster, half of them have no foliage (eaten?) & seem very wet & rotted although can see no signs of mould. The other half have curly leaves & no bulb growth.
So I've a free bed earlier than expected, I'm not planting brassicas so what would be the next best thing to plant from the following-
Beans - broad, runner, French
Tomatoes
Cucumbers
Summer & winter squashes

personally I'd go for squashes, with cucumbers going up a structure at one end so they take up less space.

Squashes, but go for a variety that doesn't take too long to mature e.g red kuri.  It would be too late for butternuts, at least up here.
