Are my beans ready to go out?
« on: June 05, 2014, 18:48 »
As the title says, ready or not? They aren't in much compost and the roots are coming out of the bottom of the pots. Should I wait until they have a few more leaves?

Thanks

Make sure you harden them off first by putting them outside for at least 3-4 days (and nights if the nights are mild) to toughen them up a bit and get used to outdoor conditions.

Looks like they are in peat pots - poke your fingers through the bottom to help the roots escape when you plant them out, especially if your soil is on the dry side.

Ripping off the top half inch or so of the pot will also help ensure that it's not above soil level when you plant them out, which avoids 'wicking' of moisture from the pot which would then take even longer to break down, although you can plant beans a bit deeper than they were in their pots which will help overcome that problem.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Thanks Steve and Jay

I wish slugs would eat weeds :nowink:

I didn't think of helping the roots escape or trimming the pot, thanks for the tips.
