unless you know the hereditary of these birds you have no guarantee of the lovely dark brown eggs.
With genuine cuckoo marans there is a difference between males and females the males generally are lighter in colour (which is what the seller was suggesting) - but you would need to see both together if you dont know what you are looking for.
