Peas done the Pea God way!
« on: May 26, 2014, 17:48 »
Here are my Kelveden Wonder Peas which I have sowed and rigged up the way DD showed us all a few seasons ago in a post of his. I tried his method of sowing (chucking em in & covering over with soil & then trussing up with supports) and I get great Peas.

The 1st photo shows the Peas this morning just after I lifted the Enviromesh which I put over them from the sowing date of 27th April. I always use the mesh weighted down with soil at the edges to keep the Mice out.

Here are my Peas all trussed up the way DD showed us in his post.
I will need to add a couple more lines of string as the plants grow & apart from watering if we have a dry spell and weeding when necessary, that's all I will do until harvest time.

I have netted them because of the Flying Rats we have around here which tear the plants to shreds if they get the chance

That's a really lovely sight to behold!

I too did mine the DD way, had a lot of trouble with the early direct sown- flea beatle and slugs just about got them all, but the home germinated/guttering planted ones doing well now and framed up as per yours  :D, albeit much fewer!!!

Could someone point me to GG's method of growing peas as I can't find it at the moment, but have seen it before - thanks.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Thanks MOS. What is the best twine to use because I have found the brown string goes loose after a while. Will any type of polypropylene green twine do or are there different strengths?

The green poly twine seems to come in 2 thicknesses, I buy the thicker one for peas.

Here is the latest picture of my Peas taken today. They are starting to pod quite a lot. How long does it take for the Pods to swell? We are going away in 2 weeks and don't want to come back to Peas that have gone over.

Keep them well watered and you may just get away with it before you go away.

Nice one, by the way!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

:D and was going to give up!  They've been marvellous.  Thanks DD, they're not now netted over and no problems.
