Calcified seaweed - slugs don't like it.
« on: May 04, 2014, 17:29 »
I acquired a big bag of calcified seaweed off Freecycle a few days ago and applied it about two handfuls per square metre.

What I notice is where the calcified seaweed is surrounding a plant that usually gets munched by slugs, they are being left alone.

An expensive slug deterrent, but if you are going to fertilise the ground anyway, maybe not a bad way to protect new plantings until they are big enough to cope with losing the odd leaf and the fertiliser then works its way into the growing layer.
