I'm going to grow these against my shed on a trellis - one wall is sheltered and south-facing.

How far apart would you plant them and how wide do they spread? I can't seem to find this info anywhere.

I was just wondering the same thing. last year I grew them on a dense wigwam with about 4 plants per pole and they were way too close and way too many. 18" sounds about right. Think I'll go for a simple 4 cane 8ft wigwam this year 1 plant per cane and a few lines of sting horizontally.
