Some seedlings - brassica, lettuce, beetroot come to mind - go leggy and useless as soon as they shoot through the compost surface if they are in too warm a room, but I find if I put them in the unheated greenhouse to germinate, they just don't show and they just rot.

Is it best to germinate even these seeds indoors and then trnsfer them out to somewhere light and cooler to grow on?

mine was all germinated in my unheated pollytunnel, some took a couple of weeks to come through but are all doing well now.

Any of those I sow now will be outside, not even in the unheated greenhouse.
