Helda beans
« on: April 05, 2014, 08:30 »
Having tasted these, would love to grow some.
Known as Helda beans, the only seeds I can find are from Thomson & Morgan
They are quite an expensive seed and Ive looked everywhere to buy locally, but no luck.
Could order online, but with postage too expensive.

Does anyone know a good alternative to these beans?

I grow my own dwarf/climbing/runner/broad beans, but would be nice to add these to my crop.

Supermarconi are also flat-podded  ;)

ebay

A little less expensive,or you may find them elsewhere, especially places that sell Seeds of Italy.

I'm under the impression that all sorts of flat podded beans are called Helda bean. Consequently, there are several other suppliers and it is not guaranteed that you get the very same flavour.

Seeds are not cheap anywhere. It is usually the case with pulses. Kings offer a very good price, for much more seed...

Thanks guys.

Have found some a bit more reasonably priced from

I will have a look at some other types as suggested. I think I have seen the Supermarconi around.

Just had the first few pickings of the helda beans.
They are delicious, exactly like the ones in the supermarkets, but tastier as home grown and cropping very well.
Placed next to my broad beans to guage size.
